MEC Mahlangu’s political career began in the late 80’s when she became a member of the South African Youth Congress (Sayco) and an ANC Youth League cadre from the early 90’s – she has served the party in various capacities, from branch to provincial and national.

After matriculating, MEC Mahlangu obtained a teaching qualification and thereafter studied for an Advanced Diploma in Economics with the University of the Western Cape (UWC). Thereafter, MEC Mahlangu was appointed to serve as a member of the Audit Commission overseeing the Office of the Auditor General from 2001 to 2004. She was instrumental in establishing the Joint Budget Committee, whose objective was to strengthen the oversight of Parliament over the executive on budget matters.

She was deployed to various Provinces to conduct organisational work until 2004. Steve Biko Academic Hospital Board-Robert Kerr Trust Health Programme

Steve Biko Academic Hospital Board-Robert Kerr Trust Health Programme reconnects qualifying financially and socially disadvantaged hearing-impaired people to the world of sound and a meaningful life.

Hearing is a basic sense, an obvious function that is often taken for granted. It connects us to people, our environment. We play, talk, express, learn and experience in sound and words. We live and love by it. For hearing-impaired people, the world can be a silent, isolated place and life’s options can be limited.
