There are several different radiology departments in SBAH, namely:

MRI (level 3)

Bookings can be done with Dr. Joseph or a radiologist working in the department at X4751/X2496

Level 4 General x-rays

This is the trauma level that delivers a 24 hour service. The workload includes:

  • General x-rays for casualties, medical oncology, chemotherapy, chest clinic, 3.1 pediatric short stay and all wards on level 4.
  • There is an x-ray room and a Lodox machine in the Trauma department which covers all the casualty x-rays and mobiles during the day.
  • Mobiles include wards on level 4 as well as the spinal ward at the Rehab Hospital and can be ordered at X4696/4695.
  • Emergency screenings are done here, and must be booked with the Radiologists at X4824/4826.
  • General screenings for HSG’s and Myeolograms are done here.
  •  Myelograms are booked with the radiologists at X4824/4826, but HSG’s can be booked with the radiographers at X4695/4696.
  • Screening for orthopedic theatre is controlled by this department.
  • All general and mobile x-rays done after hours are done from this department.
  • For patients in the ward which are able to come to the department, x-rays forms are to be left at the front counter with the clerks on level 4, and the patient will be ordered.

CT Scan (level 4)

There are 3 CT scan machines present on level 4. Bookings for scans can be done with Dr. B. van der Walt or the radiologists at X4714/4715.

After hour scans are only done for emergency cases and can be booked with the radiologist on call at X3757, or their hash number which will be available with the radiographers at X4695/1594.

Level 6 General x-rays

Only open during the day, and the workload includes the following:

  • All IVP’s and screening examinations which can be booked with the radiologists at X4361/3720.
  • General x-rays for all the clinics on level 6 as well as the orthopedic clinics on level 5.
  • All general and mobile x-rays for the wards on level 6. For mobile x-rays phone X3719, but for patients that can come to the department, leave the form in front of the x-ray department with the clerk, and the patient will be ordered.
  • Patients from ward 1.1 ,1.2, 1.3 1.4 and 2.1 situated at Tshwane District Hospital are also covered by this department.
  • All x-rays needed in theatre on this level are covered by this department, as well as screening in theatre for cholangiogram and porto catheter.
  • Screening of ERCP’s for Gastroenterology is also covered by this department.

Cathlab (level 6)

Heart catheterization procedures, bookings can be done at X3725/3726.

Level 8 General x-rays

  • Mammograms, Bone densitometry are covered by this department and bookings can be made at X1789/2300.
  • Rapid swallows are done by speech therapists in this department and they do their own bookings.
  • All general and mobile x-rays from level 8 are done from this department. For mobile x-rays phone X4384, but for patients that can come to the department, leave the form in front of the x-ray department with the clerk, and the patient will be ordered.
  • All x-rays needed in theatre on level 8.
  • Screening for scope theatre and lithotripsy are covered by this department (X5559/5492).
  • All clinics on level 8, which includes pediatrics, are done in this department.

Ultrasound (level 8)

Situated in the radiology department on level 8. Bookings can be done with the clerks at X2300/1789.

AOT theatre (level 8)

Bookings can be made at X2011/1296.
